Essential oils as complementary and alternative medicines for the treatment of influenza

ABSTRACT:Influenza is a common infectious respiratory disease that not only causes seasonal outbreaks, but can also cause deadly global pandemics. Herbal medicines have been used for centuries to treat symptoms of influenza and essential oils derived from them have been prescribed as complementary and alternative treatments against influenza. This review presents a summary of essential oils that have shown anti-influenza activity, the typical compositions of the oils, as well as essential oil components that have shown anti-influenza activity
